The History of Dauphine New Orleans is fraught with tales of ghostly inhabitants and the unexplained bumps in the night. 

Many of our hotel guests, employees, and even experienced ghost-hunters have experienced haunted encounters at the New Orleans’ Dauphine Orleans Hotel. From sightings of a phantom bride to flickering televisions, there is no shortage of haunted experiences at our historic hotel.

Perhaps the hotel's most famous ghostly resident is an apparition of a bride. People believe this haunting woman is the sister of former owner and bordello operator May Baily, Millie Baily. To escape the bordello life, Millie got engaged to her one true love. Unfortunately, on the couple’s wedding day, her betrothed was killed during a gambling brawl. The ghosts of Baily and her fiancé, a Civil War soldier, frequently haunt the historic New Orleans hotel grounds — Baily in her wedding dress and her fiancé in his uniform.

In addition to ghost sightings, some hotel guests have experienced odd sounds, flickering televisions, and haunted encounters in their hotel rooms. Paranormal television shows have conducted investigations of the Dauphine Orleans Hotel, and our hotel remains one of New Orleans’ most haunted places to stay.

The Historically Haunted

May Baily’s Place Bar

May Baily’s was one of the first and most notorious bordellos in New Orleans’ Storyville during the city’s legalized red-light district era in the mid-to-late 19th century. Today, the boudoir-inspired New Orleans hotel bar invites guests to indulge in sultry sips surrounded by burlesque art, indulgent fabrics, debaucherous history, and haunted visitors. Although May Baily’s Place is now a popular New Orleans haunted landmark, its long-time troubled guests still appear. Reports of random broken glasses, levitating barstools, and doors that mysteriously open have surfaced regularly throughout our historic bar’s haunted history.
